On August 28, the Brotherhood celebrated the Feast of the Dormition of our Most Holy Lady Theotokos and Ever-Virgin Mary. The Brotherhood was joined by the lay faithful to celebrate the Divine Liturgy; Archimandrite Maximos gave the homily.
Fr. Maximos preached on the significance of the icon of the falling asleep of the Mother of God, drawing our attention to her passing from death to life while held in the arms of her Son and surrounded by the apostles and many saints, including our patron, Saint Dionysios.
He praised the Theotokos as our model of calm, peace and faith, her face reflecting these virtues because she has the Lord — a state attainable for us as well, if we remain mindful of our minute-to-minute decisions and keep Him at the center of our lives. In closing, Fr. Maximos encouraged the faithful to turn to our All-Holy Mother for consolation in times of distress and sorrow.
